High temperatures, especially in combination with high relative humidity, negatively impact endurance exercise capacity. This negative impact can be significantly reduced by developing an individual strategy for fluid and electrolyte replacement. In order to create such a strategy, it is necessary to measure the hydration status, sweat rate as well as the electrolyte loss (particularly sodium). During a heat tolerance test, all these data are carefully collected and analyzed.
Besides creating an optimal strategy for fluid and electrolyte replacement, performance can also be improved by acclimatization of the athlete to hot and humid environments. During training in our environmental facility with simulated heat and humidity, the athlete’s body can develop the physiological adaptations needed to perform optimally during challenging heat exposure. At the same time, the athlete can train his individual rehydration strategy to be used during exercise in the heat.
If desired, the dehydration test can be supplemented with a personally developed nutritional plan for the preparation period on a competition or the competition day itself. We provide an individual 'step-by-step plan', which is fully geared to your own test results: what and how many of which specific products should I take from morning (breakfast) to evening (dinner)?
